I’m writing a short blog to help teams understand how to discover their purpose. Purpose is different than your vision or mission. Purpose focuses on the change you would like to see in the world.

In this blog, I want to help people, teams and organizations discover their purpose. Having a shared understanding on what your organization’s purpose is, can help improve motivation, increase autonomy, attract talent, help creates communities and enables a north star to pivot your initiatives.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • It is not about your company
  • Purpose should be emotional, generate passion and be meaningful
  • It should inspire radical thinking
  • Think of your target as being a local environment with a global impact

For example: Google’s purpose is to: Organize world information, and TED Talks’ purpose is, Ideas Worth Spreading

So where do you start?

#1: Create your purpose: Dream what you want it to look like

#2: Define how it is transformative? Is it massive or local?

#3: Craft a clear and simple tagline: Why does this matter and why should people care.

How does your team discover its purpose? Share your comments with us here or contact us.
